𝓤𝓷𝓬𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓤𝓶𝓫𝓻𝓲𝓪: 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓒𝓱𝓾𝓻𝓬𝓱 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓝𝓾𝓷𝔃𝓲𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓪 📍𝓣𝓸𝓭𝓲, 𝓘𝓽𝓪𝓵𝔂 🇮🇹 #𝓮𝔁𝓹𝓵𝓸𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓲𝓽𝓪𝓵𝔂

In the ancient city of Todi, not far from the cathedral, there is a small baroque jewel the Church of the Nunziatina, which happens to be the most beautiful church for me.

The 17th-century building is hidden behind a simple facade, but inside the variety of Baroque colours leave visitors amazed. The small space is formed by a single nave with a frescoed ceiling and eight chapels open on the sides. Many artists worked on the original decorated coffered ceiling, of which nothing remains today due to a fire that broke out in 1700.

All the decorations visible today, including the gilded stuccos and the decorations with angels, flowers and fruit, recall the Marian iconography. There are also several pictorial works of great value, such as the table inspired by the painting by Veronese, The Wedding at Cana, and a painting by Andrea Polinori, a major painter of the early Baroque in Todi.

Can you imagine the juicy stories that hide beneath the ruins of Baia? I would love just a glimpse into the scandalous lives of its inhabitants before it fell to its premature destruction. At its peak, the ancient Roman city of Baia would rival modern-day Las Vegas. What happened in Baia, stayed in Baia.

Just letting you know that Perugia once went to wa

Just letting you know that Perugia once went to war over salt. Apparently Pope Paul III wanted to put an end to Perugia's independence and so he raised the salt tax in 1538. The Perugians revolted, initiating the Salt War; however, they were crushed by a huge Papal force. As a person with a weakness for salt I can feel their pain, I'd be furious too if the price of salt went through the roof.
